Sound Card:
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS Gamer- $97
Okay, this is one of those times I'll admit that this is a little extravagant. The "ZS GAMER PLATINUM" tag basically means he'll be paying a little bit more, but then again, he'll be getting games like Halo for the PC, Jedi Academy... stuff he'll need to game on, but nothing that would be too strenuous on the video card. However, keep in mind that if he did without this, it would be about $60, so there's a price shaving opportunity right there.
Speakers:
Logitech X-230 2.1 Speaker System White Box- $30
I can honestly say these do a good job. Logitech does a surpisingly good job delivering the bacon with their X-*** series speakers, and this will be no different. The Subwoofer delivers enough oomph to make all the nice games sound pretty, and the on-the-speaker headphone and sound control are a nice addition. Plus, its $30. How can you argue?
Misc:
Miscellaneous Cords- $30
Upgraded silent fans- $50
Mouse + Keyboard- $20
GRAND TOTAL ------------------------ $1530 + Shipping
Okay, so maybe I went a little over a decent price range. For one thing, the case is really too expensive for my tastes, but it delivers quite nicely. The Motherboard could be tuned down efficiently, and I really would have thought more about switching him over to Athlon 64, only for the fact that it might have been cheaper overall. However, keeping within his boundaries, this is the best kickass PC I can come up with. In any case, this is another great example of a great PC, and I hope some of you have learned some from it.
