Part 4: Subscription Services/User Support
FINAL FANTASY XI -> D-
Time to repeat myself: Because they tried it on the PS2, it failed on the PC horribly. The PlayOnline system is the biggest Catch-22 that has ever existed- considering the fact that, if you want to cancel your account or change your credit card, you must have the game installed with the login system engaged. No, you can't restore your password- so many gamers I have spoken to are very angry to note they are still being billed for a game they try to cancel, but cannot due to horrible service.
That being said, the entirety of the managerial system is on the PlayOnline system- so beware, good folks. While it may be useful to .001% of the planet, everyone else will be thoroughly frustrated at the draconian way the game forces you into registering, managing, and deleting your account.
WORLD OF WARCRAFT -> A
Blizzard is easy to work with. Everything makes sense. I really can't go into detail, generally because the system is SO easy to work with, there is nothing to complain or contrast about. Log onto their website with your account, invite friends, manage your characters- everything- all from the web interface. Much better than a stupid .exe file, much better than anything else. Best of all, it fits right into the website, so nothing is confusing. I'm impressed.
EVERQUEST 2 -> B
While Everquest is signed up with the ever painful Sony Online, I have to say I found some ease of use in the system. It forces you to open up an annoying update GUI and, worse of all, generally forces you through a long system of logging in prior to starting the game- but it is forgiven due to relatively stable password systems and an account management system that generally makes sense. Naturally, you will pay an arm and a leg for this kind of treatment- but I imagine EQ2 as a game for people with a lot of time, and if you do have that time, this game is easily for you.
