Secret of Mana(SNES) (E) (RPG) |

Squaresoft brings it to the table. Again
Squaresoft is known for making great RPG series, case in point Final Fantasy and Super Mario RPG. Secret of Mana is yet another one of SquareSoft's greatest creations, that's my opinion you can see for yourself if you buy the game.
Secret of Mana has a pretty unique and gripping storyline and the gameplay is VERY nice. Basically in Secret of Mana you are [insert name of choice here], a young child who you name at the beginning of the game, who falls off a waterfall and finds a sword called "The Mana Sword" The Mana Sword apparently has been there to protect the land from monsters, and once you pull it out monsters start appearing everywhere. The Mana Sword is weak however, and you must power it up by gathering strength from the Mana Seeds around the land. ![]() The music in this game is good. It's pretty catchy but not so much in your face and loud and obnoxious. It's the perfect way to make a game. The sound as well is pretty good, as SquareSoft tried the best they could to make swords sound likes swords, whips sound like whips, and boomerangs sound like boomerangs. The graphics in this game are simple and not as crazy complex as Final Fantasy III for example. They're easy on the eyes, yet get the point across. If you're in a grassy area, light green. If you're in a scary forest, darker colors etc. ![]() SOM's gameplay is different from most other SNES RPGs. In Mario RPG they changed it up so that you can see the enemy your fighting. In Final Fantasy you can't see the enemy at all (random battles). In secret of mana you can see the enemies, but you don't go to a battle screen. Basically certain levels allow you to hold your weapons and inform you that monsters are there. You walk around and if you find an enemy, just hit the attack button and you swing your sword the enemy gets hurt. It's simple yet it's fun to do. Kingdom Hearts' Battle system is similar to this, except that KOH doesn't tell you how much damage you do each hit. ![]() Overall this game gets a perfect mainly because Squaresoft changed it up a bit. Changing it up is good. No one wants several DIFFERENT games (Meaning not a series of games. Example using fake names: Billy's Adventure is not the same as Bob's Fish Mart) that have the SAME kind of gameplay and stuff. Basically, if you see it buy it. If you can't find it, eBay it. You're certain to be happy if you play this game.
