Operation Wolf(NES) (Unknown) (Shooter) |

Hard shooting.
Operation Wolf is one of the few games I'll say actually falls under a literal shooter- in the sense that you actually are supposed to use the NES Lightgun for this game. Yes, you have to take that big Orange (Or, for some of you, grey) gun and fire it off at the TV screen like an idiot. Good idea, but you have to keep in mind since the NES was the first system to ever use this technology, so it doesnt really ever work correctly.
Regardless, the game is interesting. I'm not exactly sure WHAT war this is supposed to be, I'm assuming 'nam, but apparently in the Vietnam War According to Operation Wolf, the enemy had much better aim than you. In fact, the enemy had sub machine guns, while you had a very bright orange light pistol carried by a prepubescent Kirk. Regardless. ![]() The game itself is hard. There isnt much to be said about this game's later levels mainly because getting to the later levels is so difficult that no-one really ever gets there. Like I said, it seems like everyone has a automatic rifle except for you, and they are exceedingly good aim, as opposed to you. You can throw grenades, of course, but as I have found, the mechanic for throwing grenades (Pointing the light gun up and firing) never really seems to work effectively or acurately, so I had to have another NES controller in my hand to hit the button for a grenade toss..... not much ease of use. ![]() However, this game beats the hell out of a game like, say... Duck Hunt. Instead of constantly pitting you against clay pidgeons and/or ducks, this game actually makes it more complex. Good, because I always felt like Duck Hunt was a little too easy- but bad because I always felt like this was a little too hard. I kinda wish they would have some difficulty modes in this game that made the game easier, like "Pussy Mode", but, then again, its a budget NES title. ![]() Overall, there isnt much I can say about this game. Its a NES shooter game- so no 3D, no story, no extreme action, it just kinda is an arcade port of the Operation Wolf machines that is overly difficult. If you are interested in playing a game that challenges the s*** out of your gun skills, this is your game. However, I wouldnt recommend this game to your typical gamer, mainly because there are so many games out now that are superior (House of the Dead, anyone?)
