  • Great Multiplayer Game for Free?

  • Author: Kirk
  • I have to admit: This game is loads of d*** fun. Andrew, SparkElectro, Ash_Link and I used to play this game at night for at least two hours. It was just d*** fun: The ability to play online with your friends makes any game, crappy or good, much better.

Now to my "Unbiased" review. Zombie Panic is a modification for the Half Life 1 engine (EG: you need to have purchased Half Life 1 in some form to play this). Thus, the graphic style, gameplay, and speed is almost identical to Half Life, but essentially a different game, just like Counter Strike.

So, installing this game is a snap. You go to http://www.zombiepanic.org/ and download the game. Install it, and its available via that hunk of crap we like to call Steam. There havent been many updates for it, and its relatively small (approximately 40 megs) compared to most 3D games, so its not a difficult job to get and play. If you can't do that, then you shouldnt be on the internet. Go play Neopets for christ's sake.

Now for the gameplay. The game sets two teams up- one as the "Humans", one as the "Zombies". The rules are simple: Humans can use weaponry, Zombies only have their (powerful) hands. Humans, of course, have the advantage of being able to cap a zombie at 300 yards (though "Capping" is rather defined as "unloading upon" in most cases). Humans CAN move faster, however the more weaponry they carry, the slower they go. This essentially means Humans run around like little retarded tanks, while the Zombies have to be extremely Ninja-ish.

Zombies are basically weaponless. However, they have two main abilities:
    1. Their hands are devastating, and even a small hit to a human will do big-time damage, and
    2. Their health recharges, albeit slowly.
    3. They can die multiple times, but they all share an amount of total times they can die before they lose.
    4. When humans die, they become zombies, so the team grows

So basically, you've got a major advantage to pwning the enemies.

Now lets talk about the BAD parts of this game. First of all, you'd expect in the picture above that the Zombie would be blown back? Fat chance. Zombies for some reason have the magic ability to take one billion bullets without having to worry about such things as "Bullet Velocity". Even when such "Velocity" kicks in, the Zombies can still jump around like little asshats getting out of your target range.

Second of all, you can be a total jackass on this. The greatest thing was, the first round I ever played with Andrew (He had Half Life before me so he showed me this), went something like this. We were both humans at the time, and all of our team had grabbed the high powered shotguns and stuff except for myself.

Andrew: Hey, you want a gun?
    Me: Huh?
*Player Andrew has team killed Player ____*
    Andrew: There ya go!
*Player Kirk picks up Player ___'s Shotgun*

You can CHEAT THAT EASILY. If you are a human and a team member pisses you off? TK em! Unfortunately, to make the game more "Realistic", a good portion of games I played had TKing turned on, thus making it one big race to kill the guy with the shotgun. Of course, this is really funny when 12 year olds who havent even hit puberty get angry about you stealing thier precious shotgun, and you turn around and kick them off the server for "Time to drop some balls".

Also, there's this really dumbass glitch out there. If you move your mouse extremely fast (For example, cranking up the sensitivity), your character will move extremely fast, like in spasms. This, of course, makes it for extrme funny-ness when someone like Ash_Link turns around and spams the voice chat with "John Basedow's Better Body Basics!" and makes his character spasm.

Overall, there are a few other glitches, like how weapons sometimes don't dissapear and the like, but who cares? Its a good game.Go out and get it if you have Half Life. If you only have Half Life 2, there will be a source version coming out sometime soon. Of course, soon meaning who the hell knows when, because the Zombie Panic team don't really talk much about it.

Overall, I give this 1 mushroom. I complain a lot, but I love it. Just like how when that bitch won't shut up, I have to give her "Mr Hand".
