  • Replay Value: Something to Worry About

  • Author: Daniel
  • Aero Fighters, as the name so blatantly implies, is about some pilots fighting some kind of enemy while in the air and so on and so forth. This is one of your typical vertical scrolling airplane shooter game, meaning everything is CRAZY. Just like many other of these games, you get RIDICULOUS weapons and superblasters and bombs and the enemies shoot a RIDICULOUS amount of bullets at you that you won't be able to dodge unless you have a very good sense of hand-eye coordination.

You can choose between 4 countries:
    America
    Japan
    England
Germany (I believe, I'm not familiar with country flags.)

Anyway it's some European country AROUND Germany at least. The pictures of these "pilots" are INCREDIBLY stereotypical. I do not kid around when I say this. The Americans consist of: A black crazy looking guy, and a military white guy. Japan consists of: A regular male pilot, and some girl who looks like she shouldn't be flying a plane. England consists of: A man with a very mysterious smirk on his face, and an old man with a monocle. and last but not least, Germay with, I kid you not, a VIKING and a ROBOT.

Aside from this very stereotypical factor, the game isn't all TOO bad. It's kind of amusing to play, though it's very unbelievably repetitive. It's basically button mash Y and kill everything in 5-10 shots or less (small planes blow up in one shot, so do you.)
The boss fights are ridiculous, because they shoot bullets EVERYWHERE and there's only one small spot that's ALWAYS your blind spot and you end up dying about 2-4 times before you can actually destroy it. Mind you, this is only the first level.

The music isn't so great. I can understand why it might be a little hard to find music suiting this game, but the music is very MIDIesque and the boss fight music just sounds like they wanted it to be like "Oh no, super scary robot thing" The sound, I believe, is basically you shooting and an explosion sound. The Sound Department failed on this game.

The graphics are pretty good, as they DO give you a sense of depth on which is the air and which is the ground. (You can probably tell which is the ground because it's everything below you, but mostly they put some shadow effects and stuff. There are buildings which look like they're tall and stuff.)

The controls are very basic. Left right up and down, and one button to shoot, another to drop a bomb. However, they have to be basic if you want to survive. It requires extreme manuevering to be able to dodge a barrage of bullets from something.

Overall this game gets two stars.
Sterotypes, Sound and Music Problems, and Replay Value make this game get old fast. It's an okay game to play every now and then, but I'd stick to the ones in the arcade. Personally those seem to be better than this one.

Don't ask me why quite frankly.
