Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest(SNES) (Unknown) (RPG) |

A Good Series Gone Wrong
Let me tell you something about Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest. There is nothing MYSTIC about the Quest. In fact, I wouldn't even call it a QUEST. The game and the title are practically oxymornic statements.
![]() How many ways are there to describe Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. There is ONE way to describe it, and that's This Game Doesn't Deserve Existence. I was open to the idea of this game, simply because it wasn't "Final Fantasy #", it had a NAME. So I get this game and when I press "New Game" BOOM Something's already blowing up, you don't know the main character, you go up a mountain, and talk to a weird old man, fight a behemoth, then go to the overworld map. Now the overworld map isn't like regular RPGs. You don't actually move freely around. You go to a location, and press left or right or up or down and your character moves to the next location. ![]() This is a first for a Final Fantasy Game. Your character can jump up and down, quite a far distance actually, and jump onto platforms one block away. This seems very handy when you think about it, but really there's no use for it. The jumping ability was put in just so people can go "Hey I can jump." I noticed this immediately when I started playing it. It wasn't put in to make the game interesting, it was put in for looks. The graphics in this game aren't something to rant and rave about. Very simple graphics that are placed very poorly. It looks, and probably was, like this game was put together very quickly and thrown out to the public to have a nice Final Fantasy game. One thing that IS kind of interesting is the weapon system. In this game, you can use some of your weapons outside of battle (One of the weapons are bombs. In dungeons, there are walls with cracks. Use the bombs to blow them up). ![]() It's kind of hard to see here, but your character is using his sword in the dungeon. It's a neat little feature I think. The claw lets you climb up walls and etc. This is about the only "neat feature" in the game. Otherwise this game is not fun at all. The music... oh man the music. I can't describe the music. It's extremely annoying and repetitive and most likely synthesized. But like worse. The sound doesn't match anything in this game. Swinging your sword (above) sounds like *Pookeh!*. It's terrible sound quality. This game gets 1 star. This game isn't very good, and it's not worth buying it at all. I wouldn't even rent it if I had the chance. A tip, stay AWAY from this game.
