Agreed.
I've been a fan of DDR for about a year now since my friend actually got me to start playing it for exercise purposes basically. Let's face it, DDR is truly a very tiring machine that can help one lose weight if they were to play it on a regular basis. So what drew me to Stepmania? Well, due to a video on the Gametrash Forums of some guy playing Stepmania and doing some ridiculously hard song perfectly, I realized that I'd like a DDR without having to work out. Kirk pointed me to Stepmania, and I really can't stop playing.
While the game itself, if you're being watched by say friends, makes you look like a dork seeing as you're only using the arrow keys it's still pretty fun. Some of the songs take into consideration the fact that you're using arrow keys, and make them faster than any human legs can go. This could be a downside if you have a USB Dance Pad, because it'll be impossible to play some songs that were specifically intended for the use of arrow keys. There's a vast library of songs you can buy, or even download some off the Stepmania website, to be used in this PC DDR. I personally have about 17-20 songs in my Stepmania folder, but that's mostly because I've been lazy to search for any free ones that are linked off the Stepmania site. I can say one other thing about this game, and it's that it has enormous replay value. If you're playing it by yourself at home and you just love to play one song, OR you keep failing one and you just have to beat it it usually doesn't get old to play a song over and over again until you personally have all the steps memorized. This could be just me, but I know it's probably not. I give this game, just like Kirk gave it, 5 stars. It's a great simulation of DDR, and with a USB Dance pad it makes it even better. If you have the money to buy a Red Octane USB Dance Pad, it's a must have if you want to play a game like this. One more fun fact: I own Kirk at this game hands down.
