Lemmings with less death.
If you've never heard of the Lost Vikings, you've probably never read a decent Video Game review before. The Lost Vikings was an essentially ignored SNES game which was considered one of the best mind-boggling games out there. This is my review of the game.
![]() Like I said, this game is famous for being a real mind boggler, and they arent kidding. This game essentially pits you against some sort of space aliens in a puzzle-like format. ![]() The game is complex, yet easy to learn. Each Viking has his own set of abilities, and can hold four items. The Vikings are very weak (No health meters) and die very easily. However, one of the Vikings has a sword and shield, and can dispatch most threats easily. Just to note it, the other Vikings have jumping/running abilities and a huge shield to hover/block with, respectively. Of course, for the most part, its of your advantage to use either ones with shields to run through it and figure out what's going on, because you're much safer. The game will put you against puzzles that remind me greatly of the old Legend of Zelda dungeon puzzles. Its obvious you need to do ________, but you need ____ to do _______, and getting the ______ is a problem, of course. Repeat this a billion times and you get the essential playing mechanism of The Lost Vikings. ![]() Suprisingly, I didnt notice a penalty for death. Of course, it may be impossible to finish the level if you kill one of your guys, but that really isnt a big issue. Of course, just to be annoying, the game requires you get all remaining Vikings to the end of the level, so I suppose killing them off might be considered an easier way of winning. And, like any game, your fellow Vikings just reappear the next level. ![]() Overall, I give this game three stars. If you're a hardcore Zelda puzzle fan, I wouldnt recommend against picking this game up from a local store that sells old SNES games. I can't see any reason against picking this game up for about $10. Of course, on the flip side, if you hate puzzles like the ones found in the Zelda series, avoid this game like the plague. You'll be breaking SNES controllers with your teeth.
