Mario Kart DS

Mario Kart DS is probably the best in the Mario Kart series. How do I know? Because I played them all. From the Super Nintendo to the Game Cube.



The story is as simple as you can get. Race. That’s it! No reason to, or no one in trouble. Just the Mario gang wanting to race.



The graphics are pretty decent. Better looking than the N64 counterparts of the characters. The enviroments look really well made. Even the remakes of the GC levels. Which doesn’t look as good, but still decent enough. Every super nintendo and GBA remake level, to me, wasn’t that great looking. Oh sure, they were on platforms not able to hold 3D that well. At least they could have made it a little more interesting. Looking at the 16 bit backgrounds or obsticles doesn’t help.







Controls are pretty easy to handle. The touch screen doesn’t do much, except enlarge or shrink the map of the level. Using items isn’t hard, since there are two ways to use them. My only complaint is getting a boost from drifting. Having to move back and forth on the control pad is actually pretty annoying. Sometimes you might accedentily push the other side and then drift the opposite direction of the turn. Pretty annoying at times too. Another complaint is getting more baloons in Battle mode. You have to let go of A, and blow into the mic. First off, waste of the use for the mic, secondly you are an open target until you can blow up the baloons.







Now for online. Online can either be enjoyable, or a big pain in the ass. First you need Wi Fi near you. If not, then you can’t go online. Simple as that. When you are able to find a location, and start looking for people, it can take a pretty decent amount of time. After you get some people, depending on if everyone is on a really good Wi Fi connection, people will lag. I can be in the lead, then out of nowhere this guy speads in front of me very choppy. Now they don’t use any items you see. How the hell do I know? Because you can see what your opponents items are. If none of those problems are present, then online is an enjoyable experience.



This game is a really great game for the DS. If anything was to provoke you to getting one, then this game is it. Currently you can get a red DS with this game bundled in, so that makes it easier to grab, instead of buying the DS and game seperately,
