  • If you've ever in your life played a game like Genghis Khan, Age of Empires, Front Mission, Final Fantasy Tactics, or the Civilization series, you know that the creators have a hard-on for creating games that are needlessly complex. If you arent sitting there confused the second you turn it on, you arent playing their game. In fact, its almost expected that you think "Wow, this is hard" and eventually are SUPPOSED to think "Oh, this is so cusomizeable", and hopefully "I like this!". I don't think that's EVER happened to me. And this is a very very good example of why.

Made by Pack-In-Video. I don't think they made it very far in the NES gaming world. And I think this is a prime reason why.

Not knowing offhand what "Aeon Geneisis" is, I'm just assuming that this game was made because of an Anime, or at least a copy of one. I'm probably not wrong on this, because its not too hard for any company to copy another and make big bucks- take a look at any crappy RPGs out now that obviously copy the Final Fantasy series, or platformers that strive to be the next Mario. Just, usually, like with any copy in existance, the copies rarely are worth a d***, and people end up getting screwed, just like this.

As you can tell, the game looks a lot like Final Fantasy. I think that goes for any game with a system like this, but it seems a little TOO MUCH like Final Fantasy graphics. I'm not sure why your mech is pink, but then again, I'm not sure if Lios is male or female, so we're in a general state of confusion. I'm also not sure why there's a castle there. I'm so confused.

After a few minutes of piddling around, I got back in my Mech and went to the world map. I had the ability to walk "Up", so I did. And, of course, being that this game is naturally a strategy game, I found myself and some form of crew up against some enemies. I'm not sure where this crew came from, but I know one thing: They sure are complex. This system allows me to customize (only a little bit, but the system makes you feel like you're strugging to do even that).

Considering I'm pretty much naturally lazy, I just kept my crew as-is and went into the battle. Feeling like this is one mean version of Ghengis Khan for the NES, I tried figuring out how to move everything. Once I played it for a little while, I realized how much this game was more of a pain then fun.

Overall, this game reminds me of the Front Mission series without the easy moving and use abilities. Its like one big pain in the rear, without any redeeming fun. However, if you REALLY REALLY like this kind of thing, I suppose you can stand it- but find out what the hell's going on, first.
