  • I never liked war...

  • Author: Daniel
  • Personally, I very much enjoyed the PS2 Kingdom Hearts. I loved the battle system, the storyline (to an extent) and I loved the Final Fantasy cameos. Though what Kirk says is true, there are few that have any meaning.

When I heard of a Kingdom Hearts for the GBA, I was open to it. Why is beyond me, but I was. So I pop this into my GBA SP (and GBA, I switch everynow and then) and it starts out all pretty and nice and pleasant with a nice 3D cutscene, and I mean 3D like PS2 graphics, and this makes me happy.

I'm happy until I get inside this whole Memory Loss Castle Place of Doom thing. This is how the storyline works. You're of course Sora being accompanied by Goofy and Donald and you find this Large building where you suspect King Mickey might be in. So you go into the building and as you go farther into the building your memories get taken away from you. So basically you have to play levels from the PS2 KH and then realize "Oh crap I remember!"

This game is basically PS2 KH with the in-game graphics sucking and the battle system being 100 times worse. The battle system works like this. You have certain cards, whether it be an attack card or a spell card they have numbers on them. Now, when you put a card on the field it has a certain number on it. The higher the number, the better you have a chance of succeeding without the enemy deflecting it. If you put a 2 out there, and the enemy puts a 4. You're attack get cancelled and the heartless comes and hits you. It's like an interactive game of War, except the other human being to kill once you lose.

Now this game isn't as bad as I make it seem to be, that's just my personality. I can truly say that this game DOES have potential, it just all depends what kind of gamer you are. Personally I like a game where there are new levels, as opposed to cheap ripoffs of the PS2 version. That's just me. If you like that kind of game because you loved the PS2 version so much, the levels are a little different and so is the battle system so it's not 100% the same. However, the story just keeps tugging you towards old PS2 times.

Now the music in this game is pretty good. It's loud and clear so you can hear it on your GBA SP (Because it has no headphone jack. Damn bastards) and not have to worry about some kind of insect flying around drowning out the music of your GBA game. The sound is pretty good too, as if you choose a summon card, an example being Donald, you yell out "Donald!" in a clear voice and then Donald comes and goes "Bwafakakwaskakwak" and then uses his magic to hurt the enemy. All sound clips are from the PS2 version.

Overall I'm giving this game 2 stars. Personally, I think that they could have done better. I'm hoping the Kingdom Hearts 2 for PS2 will be better than this, and if it's not I'm gonna have problems.

This game definetely has some potential, it just matters what kind of gamer you are. I mean I obviously didn't hate it to much, as I got pretty far into the game and am fighting an impossible boss at the moment which I have given up on (Riku). So if you see this, and you THINK you might like it you can try it out. Don't blame me if you hate it though.
