WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007 (Exciting Pro Wrestling 8 in Japan) is a forthcoming professional wrestling video game released by THQ. It will be the latest installment of the WWE SmackDown! series based on World Wrestling Entertainment's weekly TV show of the same name. The game is the successor to 2005's WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2006. On March 31, 2006, THQ, YUKE's Future Media Creators and WWE officially confirmed the game.
It will be released on the PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable and the first to launch on the PlayStation 3. This is the first time a game in the SmackDown! series is featured in two different console generations. THQ are also aiming for SmackDown vs. Raw 2007 to be a launch title for the PS3 console. [1] While the series has traditionally been exclusive to the PlayStation series of consoles, this game is also planned for release on Xbox 360 after a series of lackluster wrestling games THQ released on the original Xbox.[2] There is also consideration over releasing the game on the Wii although this has not been confirmed, as the developers are waiting to learn more about the system. [1]
Character models will look more realistic.
THQ aims to bring a more realistic fighting experience with a new analog control grappling system, enabling the player to throw their opponent anywhere they want as compared to previous preset animations. A lot more interactivity in the arenas will also be present such as fighting within the crowd arena. Signs and objects from the crowd can be used to beat down the opponent. The chain reversal system has also improved and now involves grapples as well as strikes. [3] For the online modes, voice chat will be in the game to communicate with other players. This was a feature that was aimed to be put in the predecessor but due to timing constraints it was not included.
Unlike previous games in the series, the name has been specifically spelt as WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007 by THQ rather than the WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW spelling seen in previous games. [4]
