  • Formula One 06 is the next official licensed Formula One series of video games announced for PlayStation 2 , PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 3.

Developed once again by Studio Liverpool (formely Psygnosis), it will be released in Europe on June 30, 2006. Continuing with the Career Mode concept of previous editions, this year's game will contain two types of Career Mode, the regular format of being a driver or alternativley, players can be a chief engineer for a certain driver. It is unknown on the duration of this years Career Mode, however like previous editions, each year is expected to be a repeat of the 2006 season each time.

Presumably at this stage, players begin their career with Super Aguri F1, Scuderia Toro Rosso or Midland F1 Racing. The better the players peform, the further they climb up the grid order, eventually being offered a contract to drive for current champions Renault F1. As in previous editions, a generic F1 06 car exists, but can only be accessed in Time Attack mode.

In addition, certain prizes can be unlocked once a certain criteria has been fulfilled (e.g. winning the world championship)). A trophy cabinet section is also featured so players can view the trophies they have won in different grands prix. The game also features the exciting new knockout qualifying system, introduced at the start of the season. The game also has Net Play available (via ethernet/broadband network adaptor)), and new for the 2006 game, players can race each other on the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable at the same time in the new Console Link Up game mode.

The PlayStation 3 version of the game, in which the release date is pending, will include many advanced features, including more realistic graphics, AI, and physics. Plus, when playing the game with the PlayStation 3, a PSP will be able to be used as a side mirror.
