  • Half-Life 2: Lost Coast was developed as a playable technology demo, intended to showcase the new HDR lighting features of the Source engine. Lost Coast also demonstrates in general what the Source engine can achieve when system requirements are significantly increased from the games the engine was designed for, with high-resolution textures and models. Lost Coast features minor storyline details that were scrapped from Half-Life 2, such as a headcrab canister launcher, and takes about 15 minutes for experienced players to finish. Previous statements have led some gamers to believe that Lost Coast is the first of several downloadable bonus episodes for Half-Life 2, which Valve may release intermittently. However, there has been no direct, official confirmation that Lost Coast marked the beginning of a release cycle.
