5: The Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess
While other gaming websites have been calling this the number one game at E3, I have to differ. Nintendo seemed to shove the game in the corner in a lot of ways, and many of us were very disappointed to see that, in essence, not much of the game would be revealed to satiate our hungry appetites.
But, to what we do know. First of all, just like expected. The Legend of Zelda: The Twilight Princess is absolutely beautiful, and may be the first game to fully use the Nintendo Gamecube in every way. Without giving away too much, Link is now equipped more than ever (and the way you can use the Wii controller makes it even better), and small additions like the boomerang with the whirlwind ability show that indeed, this game is a new chapter in the Legend of Zelda game series.
As for tangible information as to when you would be able to play this game, there was little, but the promise that we would be not only playing Twilight Princess later this year, but it would launch on the Nintendo Wii as well as the Gamecube. With that in mind, it is no surprise, as Nintendo would prefer to launch Q4 this year to battle the launch of the Sony Playstation 3, releasing in mid November.
4: Metal Gear Solid 4
Was freaking awesome. As I say every time I prefix a long Metal Gear Solid rant, virtually every staff member of Gametrash has some sort of love for the series, and the second the 15 minute trailer hit our hands, we were giggling like little schoolgirls. But here's a quick breakdown:
First off, Solid Snake (Old Snake) is back, this time back in Outer Heaven. Along with previous crew members and friends from Metal Gear Solid 1 and Metal Gear Solid 2, Solid Snake must finish the battle with Liquid Snake/Revolver Ocelot, who is now running around owning what is known as a PMC- a Private Military Company- that rivals even the United States military. Stating Our war is over, Solid Snake is now set against programmed soldiers with the intent to kill him.
Also back are some standard characters, such as Colonel Campbell, Meryl, Otacon, and many more, who now look beautifully rendered in various degrees of old. Meryl now looks (and sounds) more like a bulldyke than ever, and Otacon still continues to be somewhat wimpy. A really surprising addition was the revelation that Raiden would be featured, now looking something like Grey Fox from Metal Gear Solid, complete with the blade from Metal Gear Solid 2.
As for game wise, not much is known- but we do know that the game will more than likely be the same style gameplay, and being as it will have Hideo Kojima working on it, we are *ssured it will have the same quality. Some interesting features shown in various clips, such as the ability to modify a weapon or Solid Snake's Eyepatch's ability to serve as a thermal vision, promise that the game will not only use the full power of the PS3, but also present some new ideas and concepts not seen in a Metal Gear Solid game before.
3: Super Smash Brothers Brawl
Something of a hidden surprise, not a single reviewer expected this kind of display- but when it was done, we were going nuts. Super Smash Brothers Brawl, the third game in the Super Smash Brother series, was announced for the Nintendo Wii, to utilize the full graphical potential of the system along with the original Nintendo Gamecube controllers to present the same unique brawler gameplay on Nintendo's new system.
One of the biggest surprises was the new character lineup, now featuring such characters as Meta Knight, Wario, and the biggest surprise- Solid Snake. Yep, the hard-broiled rear-kicking hero from the Metal Gear Solid series would be making an appearance, looking like an old man at a rock concert.
That's all the information we have, unfortunately. While the trailer we saw is available in high quality format in our download section, we still have nothing significant to say- but I can promise that the second we get the information that we will post it on the website for your personal viewing... while we also drool over the shiny perfect graphics.
