But now it's time to talk about Windows- the system you are most likely reading this article on. As Moore said, the games will no longer be sent to the Island of Misfit Toys, and the idea will be to deliver hard-hitting games on the PC platform.
Crysis
The first game to be shown for the Windows system, made by the Far Cry team, Crysis is..... well, it's Far Cry 3. Looking quite a bit like the original Far Cry, Crysis' video was set in what appeared to be a destroyed boat, the water and explosions hitting the side as what appeared to be alien robots flitted around inside, attacking the player. Other videos displayed Far Cry environments (More jungle). Other than that, not much is known- but we can say it looks damn good.
Microsoft Flight Simulator X
If you're interested in this kinda stuff, Flight Simulator X was shown, complete with beautiful planes and realistic sky. And that's about it.
Windows Vista
One quick showing was of Windows Vista, which most in the hacking community have had for the last year. While Moore considered this a step in gaming, many reports show that the system is actually quite flawed, which may explain why he glossed over it. If I'm not mistaken, the last count on the RAM use was something like two gigabytes for full operation. Ouch.
Shadowrun
Completely old school, Shadowrun features cartoonish shooter graphics something like a mix between realism and Serious Sam, and appears to chronicle a story about artifacts allowing for superhuman abilities, or something of that nature. Yet again, it's just a cut scene, so I'm left in the dust until I'm able to beat the info out of people. And, the reason this was brought up- it will be featured only on PC and XBOX 360.
Alan Wake
Just like we saw at last E3, Alan Wake is yet again a gritty realistic game that blurs the line between reality and fantasy. Looking to me almost like a Clean Silent Hill, Alan Wake looks as good as ever, and appears to be one of Those titles that everyone has to get. Just like Shadowrun, Alan Wake will be exclusively on the XBOX 360 and PC.
A wild Bill Gates appears!
To somewhat close up the game showings, Bill Gates himself showed up, talking about the XBOX 360 in the future. While most of it was just what Peter Moore glossed over before, Gates also seemed to tie up what Moore said, giving us a zoomed out version of what we just saw- most importantly, future plans for the XBOX Live platform. Bill Gates wants you playing the XBOX 360 AND the PC, and he wants you a full participant in this revolution. Well, at least he didn't tattoo Vista on his arm.
The ending- with a special video
Of course, no Microsoft press conference would appropriately end without a little sneak peek- and in this case, a sneak peek of the title Halo 3. While nothing was given information-wise about the game, I can say one thing: the game is absolutely beautiful, presuming that the graphics I saw were generated on the PS3. It appears this will be the last game of the series, so we can expect one hell of an ending some time in the future.
And, to end it up, Microsoft showed off some cool features that linked the PC and the XBOX 360, such as the Gamer Card aspect. All in all, Microsoft has one hell of a lineup to show off, and virtually everyone there was floored. I started viewing with the anticipation of Lame and Meh, but I walked out with I need an XBOX 360. Microsoft has moved, at least in my mind, from floundering above water to doing some truly unique things, and I think the 360 is going to be a major competitor against the PS3 and Nintendo Wii very soon.
