DISCLAIMER: THIS REVIEW IS ABOUT A HENTAI GAME NOT APPROPRIATE FOR MINORS. HOWEVER, THIS REVIEW DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY NUDITY OR TALK OF ANY SEXUAL ACTS. THIS IS APPROPRIATE FOR ALL AUDIENCES ABLE TO FULLY COMPREHEND THE RAMIFICATIONS OF THIS GAME.
It's been a veritable eon since I last did a Good Lord article. This doesn't mean I haven't been playing Japanese games, it's simply because I haven't really found one that hit me as something bad. Some of them were mediocre, some of them were bad, but I found nothing that really hit me as being something that the normal American consumer would cringe at. Until I looked back at my old articles.
Actually, it wasn't looking back so much as commentary I got. One of the key points of my ?Top 10 Games [your] Girlfriend shouldn't see? was Artificial Girl 2, a game that allows you to create your own virtual girl and basically use her as an interactive sex doll. So I decided to review it.
In keeping with the general rules of Gametrash, you will not find nudity in this review whatsoever in any form. Neither will I go into any detail on the sex scenes, the uncensor patch, or anything similar. This is not a site for you to find info on sex games. However, I find this game hilarious without even delving into the (somewhat disturbing) sexual scenes. Really, it's a lot more fun to look at a game from a serious side with both hands than a game with one hand and half a brain. Really, I promise.
So, Artificial Girl 2. This game was created by Illusion Soft, one of (if not the) biggest distributor of 3D Hentai games in Japan. From ?Battle Raper 2? (Another thing mentioned in ?Top 10 Games [your] Girlfriend shouldn't see?) to this game, they seem to have a iron grip on the market. Frankly, I'm not surprised, as no serious company would even consider taking this market, but.... whatever.
The game has absolutely no story or any real story or game play innovations. The game simply throws you on some unnamed island and pretty much leaves you to your own devices- (EG: to woo and fornicate with the girl). This seems pretty simple, and it is- this game was never made for people to brood over like I am. Everything in the game is made for simplicity yet function. You move with the mouse buttons and all complex motions can be pulled off by a keystroke (The game was obviously meant to be played with one hand). Hitting space results in a ?Sit? or ?Activate?, the D key calls the girl, A or S (look, I didn't play this game for that long to remember all the controls off the top of my head) changes the perspective from you to the girl. It's basically the same thing as the camera modes available in popular FPS-es like Counter Strike, except I never really thought I was supposed to look at a Terrorist as closely as I do a virtual slut.
So now you get the idea. Let's look at the actual game. The game itself is always between borderline beautiful and horrendously ugly. Illusion obviously didn't care about much other than the girl meshes, so nothing, and I mean
NOTHING other than the girls looks good. And, the girls don't look that good, depending on your perspective on the subject (Are you attracted to
The Sims characters? No? Well, you're going to have a hard time being attracted to the girls in AG2). For example, on a close examination, your avatar has no eyes... or any real distinctive features:
In fact, for future reference, you can make him disappear. Poor guy, he thought the job would be really good except for the part where all people playing this game turn him off and look at the character with breasts. But no biggie.
One thing has to be said about this game, and that is they put some serious work into the clothing systems. This is where the game really hinged on, if you think about it- the game's ability to duplicate and live out fetishes. Sure, Japan deserves to be nuked for this travesty. But it's impressive how detailed you can get on the subject. Such costumes included:
-Medieval
-Schoolgirl
-School Teacher
-All Jeans
-Space Cadet
-Ribbon
