    Gamecube

The first contender for the Gamecube is a game that everyone has hailed as a beautiful console game: Metroid Prime. Metroid Prime looks great on a wide screen, and just like Halo and DOA3, scaled to my widescreen. The game still looked great, however I did notice some odd artifacts in the blacks, which was not the TV screen. This possibly was from some stretching on the Gamecube's side, but whatever.

The only problem I had with the Gamecube on this game is a debatable problem: The gamecube locked up. Be it because it was on a widescreen or not, it locked up MAJORLY in the middle of the game, pissing me off badly. Considering I keep all my gaming systems and games in pristine condition and they always run on a normal screen, this makes me wonder if it was a fault of the widescreen aspect having to be generated. Who knows, I doubt that's the case..

The second contender is a game that basically everyone with a Gamecube owns: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. While everyone knows I basically hate this game for messing with the adult themes of the Zelda series, this game definately needed to be tried on the Gamecube, because it claims "Progressive Scan Support" (Though it barely would work, at all, with RCA output).

The Wind Waker ran OK on the widescreen. As you can tell by the poor-quality photograph, the Wind Waker definately lacked true Widescreen support, which made the game stretch a bit (Even the GUI, which made the hearts look a bit fat). The game played normally, but it seemed like because everything was stretched that the game felt a bit off. That just might be me, but it is something to be noted, regardless. Suprising the game supports Progressive Scan when it doesnt support widescreen (Usually higher-end TVs support progressive scan, and higher-end TVs now tend to be widescreens, but...).

The final review for the Gamecube doesn't really count because it's a bitch-review. I'd just like to congradulate Capcom for making the most useless widescreen game on the planet- Resident Evil 4. While I love the game immensely, I would quickly like to note that the game is not TRUE widescreen, meaning that popping it in any widescreen TV will essentially do you no good. Thankfully, the TV I was using had an auto-format function, which zoomed in on the game. Suprise suprise, it's bloated.

While this is a poor picture, you quickly notice when looking at it that the game is just damn ugly when blown up. Stepping far away from it makes it all better, but I think Capcom demands an explanation for this stupidity. Making a game widescreen but not REAL widescreen is like making a shooter game where you don't shoot anything. However, I will say that the PS2 version of RE4 that's slated to come out sometime soon is told to have real widescreen, but I think it's a bit late.
