Overall Impression
The PS3, as I have told many people who have excitedly asked me about it, has a lot of potential. A lot. As in, the system is looking towards a bright future of awesome. Even the casual gamer can easily tell that the system is chock full of good things, and in no way is it lacking in any department, be it gaming or features themselves. Sony's new online service gives much promise too, almost a George Zimmer like guarantee of future things to come.
The only issue is
now- to be honest, the system is lacking badly. The games on the system are rather mediocre, only consisting of the very basics (Though Resistance: Fall of Man is quite nice). Even though the system will obviously be giving out some hardcore gaming experiences in the future, the current state of the system exists only for those who are impatient, and in no way is worth rushing to buy the system.
When games like Final Fantasy XIII come out, I do believe that the PS3 will be a must-buy. However, at this immediate moment, where many of us are strapped for cash anyway, the PS3 is nothing more than a very expensive toy to look at and go ?I can't wait until you have some REAL games?. Until then, I will probably be spending most of my time doing exactly what I did on my PS2- playing Gran Turismo 4 and hoping to god that in the future I will be hugging this system like a teddy bear. Just, not now.
So, that's it. I said it. The rush is useless. You can all go home, kick back, watch TV, and remind yourselves that the people waiting in line like rabid dogs had no point in doing so. The PS3 is out, and it is here to stay- but there's no point in having it now, not until some really fun games come out for it. So kick back, have some Christmas egg nog or something and get wasted, and laugh at all the people still healing frostbite from those long hours in the cold. You know better. You can wait. And then, only then, will you have fun.
