Winback 2 Sneaks Up on Stores

By Charles Onyett, Mar 2, 2006
KOEI announced today that April 18, 2006 is the official North American ship date for Winback 2: Project Poseidon. When the day arrives, Xbox and PlayStation 2 gamers will get the chance to experience the intense action-strategy that Winback is known for. This game differs from the original N64 and PS2's original Winback: Covert Operations by giving players access to a new "route" system. Throughout the game's 30 missions, players will be able to experience each from the perspective of three operatives, including lead operative Craig Contrell. Each playable character will be proficient with six weapon types, including sniper rifles. With Winback 2, KOEI seems to be trying for a more action oriented, team-based approach. The original was notable for its unique blend of action and stealth elements, requiring you to proceed slowly through each level, frequently flatten yourself against walls and check around corners. Sound familiar to Splinter Cell? Though they're not really the same game, Winback did it first. We'll have to wait and see how Project Poseidon's mechanics work out, and will have more information as soon as it's available.
