He probably borrowed them from friends as a joke of some sort. Having even one at this point is kinda useless.

Agreed. Sony has this situation with everything it releases (the PS2, PS1, etc), the PSP being no different (except it is lagging around point 5). It goes something like this:
1. Release the system. Hype it like it's a cure for cancer.
2. Realize you should fire your marketing department, but it's too late.
3. Continue to hype it, secretly wish Marketing would die from AIDs
4. Watch as other consoles steal your initial thunder, get angry, watch the press turn on you
5. Wait about three months until game developers finally release their big ticket games, such as Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy, and Devil May Cry (or similar, the big names for the system)
6. Enjoy record sales. Begin to actually make money again. Stop pissing in Marketing's coffee.
7. Slowly overtake competitors and enjoy market dominance.
8. Watch your system's power become useless. Watch other companies begin to look shinier than your system. Develop penis envy.
9. Design new system.
10. Go to #1

The PSX, PS2, PS3 and PSP are perfect for Homebrew! Yet, Sony is against it all. Except the ps3, of course.
