  • My opinion on the XBOX 360

    by Kirk, 2005-05-14
Well, it's finally out. The XBOX 360, yes, "XBOX 2", has been shown to the public in the form of numerous interviews, pictures, ideas, and concepts. Wohoo. Now, lemme just go put away my party hat and put on my thinking hat, and let's think about this system for a bit.

First of all, I can't say this system is not going to be a god d*** monolith. First of all, its got THREE processors running at over 3.0 GHZ a second, making it faster than any PC in existance. However, it's only got a 500 mhz NVidia video card, which is impressive but didnt impress me in the way the processing unit did. 512 Megs of RAM, that kinda s***. Overall, this thing is going to be a powerful system, good or not.

Second of all, this system is going to be very community oriented. Not only will your XBOX keep track of your gaming prowess (EG: What you've done in each game) and let others see it, it will also keep track of how nice you play, your skill, et al. This thing not only will support that, but it will also maintain your music and videos, allowing you to use it as a media center PC of sorts, with removable hard drive capabilities and the like.

Let me say this first: I'm no big fan of the XBOX. I have one, I like Halo and Halo 2 to varying degrees, and I love DOA3. I felt like XBOX Live was a cheap sham, and I also feel like the XBOX was somewhat of a waste of money except for Jet Set Radio future. Honestly, I really feel like that the XBOX was like a retarded-brother kinda gaming system that begs for some decent use of its power other than sports or racing games.

The XBOX 360 might change that. First of all, it fixes virtually every problem the XBOX had. Wireless internet support in the box, as well as wireless controllers, a removable hard drive, 3 USB ports, Memory card slots, sleek, streamlined, SMALL Controllers, and a nice design to it make it very appealing. From the screenshots I've seen, it also appears to be about the size of the XBOX 1- sad, but then again, with all this power, I'm not suprised.

What's really impressed me is the system inside the box. With the ability to have a gamer profile going on with dynamic match abilties, I'll no longer feel like I'm alone in the world. From other screenshots, I've seen games like Poker being played, which means that I could just pop on the 'box to chill with some random people. Sounds appealing.

Another thing I like about this is that it looks like the Wifi abilities are going to make gaming much easier to pick up and play. If anyone has ever had a s***load of friends over to play Halo or the like, you'll know that cords and general wires are a pain in the ass. With this, it seems like I'm no longer gonna have to be the cord nazi so Mike or someone doesnt spill my soda.

The big thing here is that we're going to have to wait. Lets face it: who the hell knows what modifications are going to be made to this thing before it's released. All I know is, I'm not buying anything unless I know it has good games on it. From what I've seen, these are the only games that have legit screenshots from the XBOX 2:

    - Perfect Dark
    - Madden 06
    - The Godfather

and a few others I don't give a s*** about. Let's face it: Do any of the above games look fun? Not really. Perfect Dark might be fun, but meh. Madden 06? Meh. The Godfather? I'd rather watch the movies.

We'll see, won't we Mr. Bond? The XBOX 360 will be an interesting, overpriced, heavy, bulky toy!
